The reasons for having a stiff neck are many and varied. It is easy to treat most of them at home. But it is not advisable to ignore them. A stiff neck is highly annoying. But this can also be an indication of some other serious infection or even tumor. There can be many reasons for a stiff neck. Whiplash or ergonomics can be a few of them. Wear and tear is another reason. You may even get a stiff neck by sleeping in a funny position. A stiff neck is something which should never be ignored. At times, it can even be the sign of something systemic. In most of the cases, a stiff neck is not really a cause for alarm. But in case of certain situations as well as combined conditions it may require a need for medical attention. It is the levator scapula which causes the feeling of a stiff neck. This is the same muscle which provides the connection between the neck and the shoulder. Thus, headache may or may not accompany a stiff neck.
