EncodingSleuth Text is a distributable Java library that examines streams of bytes to determine whether they represent encoded text, and to detect the best character set for decoding the bytes back to the original text.

It uses sophisticated algorithms and empirically derived statistics to do this with maximum accuracy and efficiency. EncodingSleuth is ideal for programs that need to process text whose encoding is not known at design time. Text editors, file utilities, data interchange/communication programs, spam filters, firewalls, virus scanners, and archival software are some potential applications.

EncodingSleuth Text may be redistributed royalty-free within your end-user applications. Additionally, an Enterprise/Server license allows you to deploy EncodingSleuth within server applications on your enterprise's servers, for use by any number of internal and external users.
